Fall Afternoons at Wingaersheek Beach

Wingaersheek is a beautiful little beach at the end of a long, winding country road in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

We actually don’t go over there a whole lot, it feels like such a long drive, but whenever we do, we love it! And it’s a pretty drive – the road goes past small farms, cute New England houses, and marshes with lots of birdlife.

To me, it has always felt like a relatively small beach but it’s actually quite big, it’s just that a large part of it is private. I didn’t even realize quite how large it is until we went on an Essex River cruise this fall and saw it from the water (also highly recommended!).

The beach is just as pretty on a foggy day as it is when the sun is shining.

Aside from the views of the village of Annisquam and the ocean, one of my favorite things here are all the birds, especially in the fall when there are fewer people around.

If you happen to be on the Massachusetts North Shore in the fall, stop by Wingaersheek. It’s a great little road trip any time of year, but in the fall, the ride is extra pretty, you can have the beach mostly to yourself, and parking is plenty and free!
