The Ninth Wave

The Ninth Wave

New in the Ocean collection! 🎉

Sometimes I really struggle with the title of an image, other times, I know exactly what it’s going to be the moment I start working on it, which was the case with this print.

I photographed this image at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on a quiet spring morning with magical light. It got its title because in Celtic mythology, The Ninth Wave represents the border between the known and unknown worlds, a barrier that separates the real world from “the other world”. To go “beyond the ninth wave” was to go on a journey of discovery and mystery, and to me, there is something otherworldly about this image – the soft colors, the fading horizon, the stillness, that single wave… it kind of feels like a dream.
