I am really liking the home decor colors that are trending this year, and when the different paint companies started announcing their colors of the year for 2021, I was very happy to see that they include many hues of my favorite colors blue and green!
Most of the home decor colors for 2021 are so soft and soothing, inspired by mindfulness and wellbeing. One that really stands out from the crowd though is Pantone’s yellow “illuminate”, and while I personally would not paint an entire room in it, I do love it as a bright and cheerful pop of color. I’d happily live in any room painted in the other colors though!
But if you can’t or don’t want to paint an entire room a new color, what do you? Add it with art! Here are some of my favorites this year:
Benjamin Moore Aegean Teal
A beautiful blue-green with gray undertones. Benjamin Moore describes it as “balanced, and deeply soothing, an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to reflect and reset.”
PPG Misty Aqua
Misty Aqua is a soft, muted, tropical turquoise aqua with an aquamarine undertone. I love this shade!
Valspar Lucy Blue
I love this shade of blue, so soft and soothing! Valspar describes it as “effortlessly optimistic, familiar and calming, like the waves of the ocean.”
Valspar Garden Flower
Valspar describes this beautiful, muted green as “a natural soft and simple tint, setting our mind at ease.”
Valspar Blissful Blue
Another soft and calming hue. Valspar says: “Naturally timeless, this muted indigo taps into the organic tones of a morning mist.”
Valspar Soft Candlelight
This beautiful shade of yellow makes me think of warm sand on a summer afternoon. Valspar says: “Optimistically warm, this mature yellow lights up a space with a golden glow.”
Minwax Vintage Blue
A soothing blue-ish green with soft gray undertones. “Vintage Blue connects us to the healing power of nature and a comforting nostalgic mood,” says Sue Kim, color marketing manager for Minwax. “Like a moment of fresh air, Vintage Blue gets us started in the day with a renewed mindset.”
Farrow & Ball Pitch Blue
A pretty dramatic cobalt blue. Farrow & Ball says: “Pitch Blue has an almost purple feel to it and is extremely lively in south facing rooms, especially when contrasted with bright shades such as All White.”
Pantone Illuminating
The most intense of the colors, Pantone’s Illuminating definitely lights up a room! Pantone describes it as “a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity and the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day.”
Pantone Ultimate Gray
A beautiful shade of solid gray that goes with everything. Pantone describes it as “emblematic of solid and dependable elements that are everlasting and provide a firm foundation. The colors of pebbles on the beach, it quietly assures, encouraging feelings of composure, steadiness and resilience.”
So there you have it: my favorite home decor colors 2021!
